VELIER - BEENLEIGH - 5 ans - Millésime 2015 - 59%
Beenleigh Artisan Distillers is a rum distillery located at the city of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In 1865, a duo from England by the names of John Davy and Francis Gooding purchased 300 acres of land fronting the Albert River. They named the clearing after their old Devonshire farm, which was called Beenleigh. Originally, they had intended to grow cotton on this land, but as fate would have it, a more lucrative alternative presented itself- sugar cane. The Beenleigh Rum Distillery on the banks of the Albert River was licensed in 1884 and utilised molasses from sugar grown and crushed in the area. In 1969, the distillery ceased production due to falling demand. However, in 1972 Mervyn Davy and his two sons purchased the distillery and production resumed. The bottling plant was modernised and also bottled whisky, brandy, gin, vodka and ouzo. A new warehouse, office block and showroom were built but the distillery was flooded in 1974. In 1980, the Moran family acquired the complex. They purchased additional land adjacent to the distillery, which underwent major redevelopment and renovation works. In 1984 Tarac Industries acquired a controlling interest in the complex and today, the distillery is equipped with modern distilling equipment including fermenting vats and column stills; however, the copper pot still remains.
This rum was distilled in single column and pot still in December 2015. It was aged in first-fill ex-Bourbon American oak barrels in the warehouse located in the Riverland region in South Australia, that has a unique arid climate.
