Domaine Arena Jean Baptiste - Morta Maio - Blanc 2020
Domaine Jean-Baptiste Arena is located in Patrimonio, in Corsica. The estate was devoted to polyculture (wheat, fruit trees and cattle breeding) until 1977, when the family decided to turn solely to vines. Antoine Arena, Jean-Baptiste's father took over the family business and expanded the estate from 3 to 14 hectares. After a few years of law studies, Jean-Baptiste decided to return to Corsica to work on the estate with his father. A year later, his brother Antoine-Marie joined them. Today, the two brothers each have their own domain entity but continue to work together. The estate's vines are located on the heights of the Patrimonio appellation: some are on steep slopes and others on half-slopes of Mount San Anghjulu. The terroir is characterised by its geological diversity; a limestone circus on the border of schistose and granite Corsica swept by the 5 winds of the island. The vines are cultivated in a natural way, without weedkillers, chemical fertilizers or synthetic products. Sulfur is used in homeopathic doses and only at bottling, depending on the analyses.
Morta Maio is made from young vines from Vermentinu. The harvest is manual. Vinification and aging are done in stainless steel and concrete vats, with a non-interventionist approach. This wine has an aging potential of 25 years.
Grape variety: 100% Vermentinu
