Château Grands Sillions Gabachot 1999
Château Pierhem is located in the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. It is owned by independent winemaker Pierre-Emmanuel Janoueix . The Grands Sillon Gabachot vineyard is planted on a soil of sand, gravel and iron grime (typical of Pomerol) extending over an area of 0.47 hectares.
The wine is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc , aged in oak barrels. The 1999 vintage is often overshadowed by the 2000 Bordeaux due to unpredictable growing conditions. In August, the outlook was reasonable despite an early season storm and late spring wet weather. Then the rains hit, September saw a devastating hailstorm that wreaked havoc on some vineyards in the wider region. The damage is particularly significant in Saint-Émilion. However, some Pomerol producers harvested just in time, before the storm.
