Domaine Frédéric Mochel - Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergbieten 2017
Domaine Frédéric Mochel is located in Traenheim, in Alsace . Originally, the family estate was dedicated to the cultivation of vines, polyculture and livestock. It is from 1967 that the exploitation becomes entirely viticultural. The vineyard now extends over 8 hectares, and is being converted to organic farming. Since 2001, Frédéric Mochel has been in charge of the property, drawing on his experience between Bordeaux and New Zealand. Frédéric Mochel owns plots on the hill of Altenberg de Bergbieten which benefits from an exceptional geographical location: located between two valleys, it is spared from storms in summer and its rainfall is low. It is protected from the winds and rains coming from the north and the Vosges also form a barrier against the ocean rains. At the same time, its position in an open landscape allows optimal sunshine throughout the day, so the grapes reach maturity evenly.
The Henriette cuvée is a Riesling from the Altenberg Grand Cru in Bergbieten , whose soil is marl-limestone-gypseous. The average age of the vines is 60 years and produce low yields. The wine is aged in stainless steel vats on fine lees then in tuns .
