The Macallan Distillery is located in Craigellachie, in the Speyside region of Scotland . It was established in 1824 by Alexander Reid , after obtaining his distilling license. After Reid's death, James Davidson and James Pierce joined the distillery as partners, breathing new life into the business. In 1868, James Stuart took control, initially as tenant-operator before becoming owner. The distillery changed ownership several times over the years but 1980 saw the launch of The Macallan Single Malt brand, a key moment which shaped the distillery's identity for decades to come. . In 1996, Highland Distillers , in partnership with Suntory of Japan, acquired control of Macallan-Glenlivet , ushering in a new era of collaboration and innovation. Under the management of the Edrington Group from 1999, The Macallan was named as one of the company's top five brands, confirming its place as a flagship product in the company's portfolio.
The Macallan is now one of the best-selling Scotch whiskey brands in the world, consistently ranked in the top three in terms of global sales. Nicknamed “the Rolls Royce of Single Malts” and “the Dom Pérignon of Scotch”, The Macallan is widely considered the best Single Malt in the world.
