Willi Schaefer - Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett 2023
Weingut Willi Schaefer is located in Graach in the Moselle region of Germany . The Schaefer family has been involved in viticulture since at least 1590, and some sources date this tradition back to 1121. The estate was founded by Martha and Willibrord Schaefer. Since 2015, Christoph Schaefer and his wife Andrea have run the family estate. The estate covers approximately 4.2 hectares, cultivating exclusively Riesling on prestigious plots such as Graacher Himmelreich, Graacher Domprobst, and Wehlener Sonnenuhr. The vines, some of which are over 100 years old, are planted on steep slopes composed of Devonian shale.
Graacher Himmelreich is a sprawling 87-hectare vineyard composed of eroded clay and blue slate. The Willi Schaefer estate owns 2 hectares of vines on this vineyard. Kabinett is the lightest style of Riesling, made from grapes with a must weight of 67-82 degrees Oechsle (the hydrometric scale measuring the density of grape must), which equates to 148-188 g/L of residual sugar.
Grape variety: 100% Riesling
