Robert Denogent Estate - Saint-Véran Old Vines 2022
Domaine Robert-Denogent is located in the commune of Fuissé, in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy . The Denogent family began its winemaking business at the beginning of the 20th century: Andrée Robert (née Denogent) owned 5 hectares of vines. His son, Jean-Jacques Robert, took over the estate in 1989 and changed its name to Robert-Denogent. In 2006, the eldest son Nicolas joined his father on the estate, followed by his brother Antoine in 2012. Since 2015, the two non-conformist brothers have been in charge of the property. They are bringing a breath of fresh air, influenced by iconic winemakers from Beaujolais, Jura, Savoie and, of course, Burgundy. The vineyard covers 13 hectares, divided into 30 plots and offering a diversity of terroirs, exposures and altitudes. Nicolas and Antoine follow an artisanal approach to produce "peasant" wines: respect for biodiversity, few interventions, limited use of sulfur, no filtration.
This cuvée is made from Chardonnay sourced exclusively from plots in Saint-Véran. The vines are grown on limestone soils in clay and marl beds, and the average age of the vines is 40 years. The vinification is natural, with no additives and very little intervention. The wine is aged for 32 months on fine lees in various wooden containers : 228-liter Burgundy barrels, 350-liter barrels, 600-liter demi-muids, and a small 800-liter foudre.
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
"A white wine sculpted by time: ample texture, notes of warm stone, ripe yellow fruits, and fresh butter. The depth of a great southern Burgundy Chardonnay, with the free soul of a wine of patience."
