Château Léoville las Cases - Clos du Marquis 2014
Created in 1902 by Château Léoville Las Cases, Clos du Marquis is an iconic cuvée of the Saint-Julien appellation. Produced from plots distinct from those of the Grand Vin, located on deep gravel soils surrounding the hamlet of Petit Bocq, it perfectly reflects the spirit and elegance of Saint-Julien. Although it has its own identity, Clos du Marquis benefits from the same rigorous expertise as the Grand Cru Classé, offering remarkable consistency and quality.
The 2014 vintage was marked by an ideal Indian summer that allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness after a cooler start to the season. This climate gave rise to straightforward, precise, and elegant wines, with great purity of fruit and interesting aging potential. Clos du Marquis 2014 expresses all the classicism of Bordeaux, with an accessible yet structured style, distinguished by great precision and beautiful harmony.
In the glass, this wine reveals a brilliant garnet color and an expressive nose of blackcurrant, blackberry, and violet, subtly complemented by woody and spicy notes. On the palate, the attack is supple, followed by an elegant structure with fine, perfectly integrated tannins. The finish, long and fresh, highlights the minerality and balance characteristic of Saint-Julien. A wine that is attractive today but will continue to become more complex over the years.
