Château Peybonhomme Les Tours - L'Atypic 2023
Château Peybonhomme Les Tours is one of the emblematic estates of the Blayais, on the right bank of Bordeaux. Owned by the Hubert family since the late 19th century, it is now managed with a deeply respectful approach to life, practicing organic and biodynamic viticulture since 2000. The estate relies on clay-limestone soils, typical of this area near the Gironde estuary, which bring freshness, structure, and depth to the wines. This approach, both rustic and precise, gives birth to sincere, expressive cuvées that are often very accessible in their youth. L'Atypic 2023 lives up to its name, as it deliberately breaks away from classic Bordeaux codes. This red Vin de France highlights a free, generous, and very lively interpretation of the Peybonhomme terroir.
This cuvée owes its unique character to its blend of Malbec, also called Côt in other regions, and Cabernet Franc. Malbec brings color, flesh, supple tannins, and a slightly peppery expression, while Cabernet Franc enhances freshness, aromatic finesse, and the floral dimension of the wine. The 2023 vintage presents itself in a fresh, concentrated style but already accessible, with ripe tannins and a beautiful roundness on the palate. The vinification remains faithful to the estate’s spirit, using indigenous yeasts, few additives, and a quest for direct fruit expression. The absence of oaky masking preserves a pure, juicy, and spontaneous sensation. Overall, it gives an original, energetic, and very pleasant red, designed as much for the table as for immediate enjoyment.
On tasting, L'Atypic 2023 reveals aromas of fresh red fruits, cherry, blackberry, violet, and soft spices, with a peppery touch characteristic of Malbec. The palate is round, supple, and flavorful, supported by generous yet balanced freshness. The tannins are present without harshness, making the wine particularly enjoyable today. Served slightly chilled, around 16 to 18°C, it pairs very well with grilled dishes, simply seared red meat, roasted poultry, confit vegetables, or generous bistro cuisine. Its fruity and spicy profile also makes it a convivial red, ideal for relaxed yet refined meals. A free, generous, and biodynamic cuvée that shows a bolder facet of Château Peybonhomme Les Tours.
