Château Peybonhomme Les Tours - Energies 2023
Château Peybonhomme Les Tours is a historic estate in the Blayais region, located in Cars, on the heights of Blaye, facing the Gironde estuary. Owned by the Hubert family since 1895, the estate now extends over clay-limestone hills particularly favorable to the expression of Bordeaux grape varieties. Since 2000, the family has chosen biodynamic viticulture, certified Demeter, to preserve soil balance and vineyard vitality. This approach gives birth to frank, expressive wines deeply linked to their terroir. Energies 2023 fits into this approach with a personality that is both powerful, supple, and original. This red cuvée highlights a modern and lively interpretation of Château Peybonhomme Les Tours.
This cuvée comes from an old plot whose naturally intense profile was particularly suitable for amphora aging. The blend combines 60% Merlot and 40% Malbec, two complementary grape varieties that give the wine flesh, color, fruit, and depth. Merlot brings roundness, velvety texture, and notes of ripe black fruits, while Malbec strengthens the structure, aromatic energy, and spicy dimension. Twelve months of amphora aging tames the wine's power while preserving the purity of the fruit and mouthfeel breadth. The 2023 vintage thus offers a generous red, balanced by the natural freshness of the terroir. The whole seeks a full, tender, and vibrant expression, without heaviness or excessive oak.
On tasting, Energies 2023 reveals a deep bouquet of blackberry, plum, black cherry, violet, and soft spices. The palate is ample, velvety, and flavorful, with dense matter rounded by amphora aging. The tannins are present, ripe, and well integrated, supporting a long, fruity, and slightly earthy finish. This red will naturally find its place at the table with a rib steak, duck breast, roast lamb, confit vegetables, or a slow-cooked dish with spicy accents. It can be appreciated in its youth after aeration but will also gain complexity over a few years in the cellar. A singular, fleshy, and biodynamic cuvée that very well lives up to its name by its energy and depth.
