Domaine Peter Sichel - Ocha 2024
Steeped in an elegant and digestible vision of Bordeaux, Peter Sichel explores a light, straightforward, and precise red style. The Ocha project was born on the right bank, in Saint André du Bois, where the vines benefit from a northern exposure and an altitude of approximately 110 meters, preserving the freshness and brightness of the fruit. The name Ocha, a nod to the tea infusion, sums up the intention: fine extraction, aromatic purity, and drinkability.
Ocha 2024 is born from a blend of equal parts of the region's two flagship grape varieties. The grapes, harvested at just the right moment of ripeness, are vinified with a spirit of infusion to emphasize the juice and delicate tannins. Short macerations, measured pumping over, and controlled temperatures. Aging, primarily in vats, aims for clarity and tension, with early bottling to preserve the crispness of the vintage. Dry and modern profile, designed for immediate enjoyment.
The nose opens with raspberry, redcurrant, and crisp cherry, enhanced by delicate peony and a hint of crushed leaf. The palate is supple and slender, carried by juicy red fruit and a fresh, straight-forward structure. The tannins are fine, the texture is silky, and the sensation is digestible. The finish, clean and savory, evokes blood orange, a hint of graphite, and a hint of red berries that calls for food.
At the table, serve Ocha 2024 slightly chilled with herb-roasted poultry, filet mignon, a plate of fine charcuterie, bistro cuisine, or grilled vegetables. It also works well with mildly spiced grilled fish. Ideal temperature 12 to 14°C in a tulip glass. Open 20 to 30 minutes before serving to loosen the bouquet. Drink immediately, or three to five years depending on the winery.
Grape varieties: Merlot 50%, Cabernet Sauvignon 50%
