Domaine Roc des Pins - Lirac - Cinsault 2023
Domaine Roc des Pins Lirac Cinsault 2023 embodies the new energy brought by Léon de Pins on the right bank of the Rhône. Coming from a family of winemakers historically established in Montfaucon, between Tavel, Lirac, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, he signs with Roc des Pins a personal project, more parcel-based, more infused, and resolutely focused on freshness. This cuvée highlights a contemporary interpretation of Lirac, far from overly extracted or excessively sunny reds. The estate relies on beautiful family vineyards, without any trading logic, and seeks to reveal Mediterranean terroirs with finesse, fluidity, and precision. The 2023 Cinsault perfectly illustrates this search for balance, giving a grape variety often confined to blends a true leading role. The result is a bright, delicate, and very digestible red that shows all the nobility of this grape when worked with restraint. It is a very nice discovery for lovers of fresh, gourmand, and immediately accessible southern Rhône wines.
Made from old Cinsault vines trained in goblet style, this Lirac draws its identity from soils mixing sand, limestone, and rolled pebbles. This type of terroir favors harmonious ripening while preserving the liveliness, aromatic finesse, and natural freshness of the wine. The Cinsault here brings its supple touch, discreet tannins, red fruit brightness, and a lightness sensation that makes the tasting particularly pleasant. Whole cluster vinification enhances the floral, spicy, and crunchy dimension of the wine without hardening the texture. Aging in tank, without marked oak, preserves the purity of the fruit and the direct expression of the terroir. The style remains deep without heaviness, with true complexity but immediate drinkability. This 2023 vintage thus offers an elegant, juicy, and subtly spicy version of the Lirac appellation.
In the glass, the color presents as a bright ruby red, slightly translucent, faithful to the airy spirit of Cinsault. The nose evokes raspberry, wild strawberry, pomegranate, fresh cherry, and rose petals, with a touch of thyme, garrigue, and sweet spices. The palate is supple, juicy, and silky, carried by vibrant fruit and very fine tannins. The whole seduces by its balance between Mediterranean gourmandise, freshness, and delicacy, without ever tipping into demonstrative power. The finish remains fresh, harmonious, and slightly peppery, with a sensation of crunchy red fruit that naturally calls for a second glass. This red can be served slightly chilled, around 15 to 16°C, to enhance its brightness and fluidity. It will ideally accompany roasted poultry, veal chop, grilled meats, a beautiful parsleyed ribeye steak, mushroom risotto, Mediterranean vegetables, or Provençal herb cuisine.
