Domaine Roc des Pins - Lirac - Grenache 2024
Domaine Roc des Pins Lirac Grenache 2024 is part of the personal project of Léon de Pins, the new generation of a family deeply rooted in the southern Rhône. Son of Rodolphe de Pins, a figure of Château de Montfaucon, he develops with Roc des Pins a freer, fresher, and more contemporary interpretation of the terroirs of Lirac and Tavel. The estate works from selected family plots, aiming to reveal wines that are more airy, more digestible, and less marked by extraction than some sunny reds from the southern Rhône. This cuvée highlights Grenache in an expression of finesse, far from simple Mediterranean power. The 2024 vintage offers here a bright, elegant, and immediately appealing red. The whole perfectly reflects this search for balance between fruit, freshness, suppleness, and terroir identity. It is a very beautiful discovery for precise, gourmet, and modern Lirac lovers.
Made from 95% Grenache complemented by 5% Cinsault, this red comes from old vines trained as goblets, planted at the foot of a limestone fault amid the pines. The soils mix marine and fluvial sands from the Pliocene, limestone scree, and limestone rock, a combination that favors maturity, drainage, and texture finesse. Grenache brings flesh, ripe red fruits, roundness, and that sunny sensation typical of great Mediterranean grape varieties. The small part of Cinsault lightens the whole, enhances aromatic brightness, and adds a more floral and airy touch. Whole cluster vinification helps preserve the fruit's energy while adding freshness, spices, and relief. One year aging in concrete tanks preserves the wine's purity, without marked wood or aromatic masking. The result is a fluid, silky, and very expressive Lirac red, built more on elegance than on demonstration.
On tasting, the color shows a bright, luminous, and slightly translucent ruby, faithful to the delicate spirit of the cuvée. The nose evokes ripe strawberry, red cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, and soft spices, with a touch of garrigue, fine pepper, and Mediterranean resin. The palate is supple, velvety, and very digestible, supported by a silky texture and perfectly readable fruit. The tannins remain fine, without harshness, while the freshness of the vintage gives momentum to the whole. The finish prolongs the red fruits, dried herbs, and a slightly chalky sensation that adds structure. This Lirac can be served slightly chilled, around 15 to 16°C, to enhance its drinkability and brightness. It will ideally accompany a veal chop, roast chicken, honey duck breast strips, seven-hour lamb, bull stew, grilled vegetables, or Mediterranean herb cuisine.
