Domaine Tempier – La Tourtine – 2023
Located in Bandol, at the heart of Provence, Domaine Tempier is a true institution of the French vineyard. Heir to a family tradition embodied by Lucie and Lucien Peyraud, it is today world-renowned for its profound, age-worthy reds that highlight the grandeur of Mourvèdre. Tempier stands as one of the most iconic ambassadors of the Mediterranean terroir.
The La Tourtine vineyard overlooks the Mediterranean, perched on the heights of Castellet. Exposed to the mistral wind, it enjoys ideal conditions for producing a Bandol of strong character. Its rich, sun-drenched clay-limestone soils allow Mourvèdre to fully express its power. The 2023 vintage, marked by excellent ripeness and balanced conditions, delivers a wine that is rich, deep, and perfectly structured, expressing the full nobility of this legendary parcel.
Its dark garnet robe announces a powerful wine. The bouquet reveals intense aromas of black fruits—blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry—enhanced by notes of leather, licorice, and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the attack is dense and firm, supported by robust yet elegant tannins. The structure is impressive, offering a wine both sun-drenched and balanced. The long, persistent finish combines garrigue, spices, and a mineral touch that defines La Tourtine’s identity. Built for aging, this 2023 will reveal itself fully after a few years in the cellar and can evolve magnificently for decades.
