DOMAINE TEMPIER - White 2024
Domaine Tempier is one of the historic estates of the Bandol appellation, located in Plan-du-Castellet in the Var, in the heart of the Provençal vineyard. Founded at the end of the 19th century and developed over generations by the Peyraud family, the estate has greatly contributed to the qualitative recognition of the appellation. Its vineyard extends over several plots spread between the communes of Castellet, La Cadière-d'Azur, and Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, where the vines are planted on clay-limestone soils typical of Bandol. The Mediterranean climate, marked by significant sunshine and maritime influence, allows a slow and regular ripening of the grapes. Although Bandol is mainly known for its great reds based on Mourvèdre, the estate also produces a confidential white that represents only a small part of the production. The plots intended for this cuvée are located in cooler areas of the vineyard to preserve the tension and balance of the wine. The White 2024 thus illustrates a refined and rare expression of Bandol white wines.
Domaine Tempier White 2024 is made from a blend dominated by Clairette, complemented notably by Ugni Blanc and Bourboulenc, to which small proportions of other Mediterranean grape varieties authorized in the appellation may be added. The vines, averaging about thirty years old, are planted on limestone terraces where moderate exposure favors progressive ripening of the grapes. The harvest is carried out at maturity to preserve the balance between aromatic richness and natural freshness. After gentle pressing, fermentation is conducted with respect for the fruit and terroir. Aging continues for several months in large oak vats then in tanks, which adds relief and complexity while preserving the purity of the wine. This cuvée remains rare and represents only a small part of the estate's production. The whole gives rise to a structured Mediterranean white that combines freshness, texture, and aromatic depth.
On tasting, Domaine Tempier White 2024 reveals a fine nose dominated by aromas of citrus, white flowers, and white-fleshed fruits, accompanied by mineral and slightly herbaceous nuances. The palate is distinguished by a broad and balanced texture, supported by remarkable freshness for a wine from a southern terroir. The flavors evoke ripe lemon, pear, and sometimes a subtle touch of almond that appears on aeration. The balance between roundness and tension gives the wine beautiful depth while maintaining great drinkability. The finish, persistent and slightly saline, recalls the maritime influence of the Bandol vineyard. This wine pairs particularly well with grilled fish, bouillabaisse, shellfish, or Mediterranean dishes based on herbs and olive oil. Thanks to its structure and aging, it also has aging potential that will allow it to gain complexity over several years.
