Jean Foillard - Morgon - 3.14 - Magnum 2018
Morgon Cuvée 3.14 2018 by Jean Foillard is an emblematic and exclusive cuvée, designed as a great aging wine and a deep reading of the Morgon terroir. Made from old Gamay vines planted on the most qualitative granitic soils of the appellation, this cuvée takes its name from the balance sought between precision, substance, and harmony. The dark ruby robe with garnet reflections announces a wine of concentration and seriousness. The nose opens with deep aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and plum, complemented by notes of violet, fine spices, and a mineral touch evoking warm stone. Upon aeration, nuances of licorice, black tea, and undergrowth appear, signs of an already complex wine destined for great evolution. The whole is dense, elegant, and remarkably controlled.
On the palate, the attack is ample and structured, supported by deep and perfectly balanced substance. The tannins are fine, tight, and silky, drawing a solid framework that supports the wine without ever weighing it down. The ripe black fruit expresses itself with intensity, accompanied by a mineral freshness that stretches the mouth and gives an impression of verticality. Natural vinification and long aging allow the wine to maintain great purity of expression while gaining complexity. The palate gains depth as the wine opens up, revealing spicy, slightly smoky notes and an almost Burgundian dimension. The finish is long, persistent, and vibrant, marked by fruit, stone, and an elegant noble bitterness.
Morgon Cuvée 3.14 2018 is a great gastronomic and aging wine, intended for lovers of deep wines built for the long term. It ideally accompanies roasted meats, grilled beef, pigeon, feathered game, or refined stewed cuisine. Served around 15 to 16 °C, after careful aeration or decanting in its youth, it reveals all its complexity and balance. Already impressive for its depth, it has remarkable aging potential and will evolve towards tertiary notes of undergrowth, noble spices, and polished black fruits. It is one of the greatest cuvées of the estate, a Morgon of great stature, serious and timeless.
