Château DOISY-DAËNE 1967
Sauternes

Classified second cru in 1855, Château Doisy-Daëne has been the property of the Dubourdieu family since 1924. The vineyard, on average over 40 years old, covers 16 hectares, located on the terroir of the Barsac plateau. The vines benefit from a particular geological configuration: a thin layer of clayey sands covers the limestone subsoil. This rocky slab prevents the vines from rooting deeply; in addition, the limestone returns during the summer to the vine the water which it is impregnated during the winter. This particularity of the terroir contributes to the production of wines of great finesse. In order to harvest the grains affected by noble rot, the harvest is carried out at least in three passages, sometimes up to six. At the end of the vinification, the wines are aged for 9 months in barrels, then for 10 additional months in stainless steel vats, prior to bottling. The wines from this estate show unparalleled richness. In general of great guard, they are already very pleasant in their youth. Characterized by elegance and purity, they are tasty, racy, ample and fruity, developing notes of honey and rose. They are also found to be deep and persistent on the palate, finesse prevailing over power and liveliness over heady character. Produced since 1990, Doisy Daëne's Extravagant is the fruit of a particular experience to which Denis Dubourdieu wished to indulge. When picking the sauvignons intended for dry Doisy Daëne, two bunches were left standing. Harvested in early November, the candied grapes conceal an impressive richness in sugar. The quantities produced are so limited that this cuvée is only packaged in 375 ml bottles. Doisy Daëne Extravagant offers exceptional power to the tasting, associated with a beautiful freshness and an aromatic radiance of great elegance.
