Château YON-FIGEAC 1990
In its first wine, the Grand Cru Classé Yon-Figeac invites the two main grape varieties of Saint-Émilion, with 4 fifths of Merlot for a fifth of Cabernet Franc. The vines are 35 years old on average and they occupy a clayey-sandy soil on a subsoil rich in iron dross.
After manual harvesting carried out at full maturity and careful sorting, the vinification is parceled and very extractive, before maturing for 12 to 14 months in new oak barrels one third.
Thus is born a Grand Cru Classé with a complex nose on cherry, blackberry, vanilla and toasted notes. The palate is full-bodied, balanced, spicy, woody and long. Good vintages will keep for more than 10 years without difficulty. The 2008 should be kept to himself, leaving time to gain finesse.
