The blend favors Cabernet Franc (54%, supplemented with 14% Cabernet-Sauvignon and 32% Merlot), a grape more common in Libournais than in Graves. Deep garnet, the wine appears to be very serious with its aromatic return to smoky notes. Its eloquent bouquet shows real complexity, combining red fruits, flowers and sweet spices handed down by aging favoring new wood (80%). The ample and elegant attack opens on a harmonious palate of good length, supported by tight and fleshy tannins.
Set in the Bordeaux urban area, like its neighbor Haut-Brion, this 4.7 ha cru owes its name to the Grands Carmes, its owners until the Revolution, which led to its sale as national property. A wine merchant bought it and passed it on in 1840 to the Chantecaille family, who kept it until 2010, when it was bought by the Pichet real estate group. In 2012, Patrice Pichet, by buying part of Ch. Le Thil Comte Clary, doubled the area, from 4.7 ha to 10.3 ha.
