CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE Domaine Pierre Usseglio 2016
Domaine Usseglio is located in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region in the Rhône Valley. It was created in 1948 by an Italian immigrant, Francis Usseglio, who came to work as a vineyard-worker. The following year, Francis Usseglio produced his wine under his own label. Domaine Usseglio was taken over by his son Pierre Usseglio and is now managed by his sons; Thierry and Jean-Pierre Usseglio, who divide their time between the vineyard and the cellar and have a philosophy of improving quality without compromising the traditional style adopted by their father. The vineyard covers 24 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape (red and white), Lirac, Côtes-du-Rhône and Vin de France.
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Tradition rouge is a blend of Grenache (80%), Syrah (10%), Cinsault (5%) and Mourvèdre (5%). It is made in a traditional way; the vines are between 35 and 75 years old, harvests are manual and then destemmed at 60%. Fermentation lasts 25 to 35 days. Aging is carried out in oak barrels, demi-muids, concrete vats and barrels over a period of 12 months.
Grape varieties: 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 5% Mourvèdre
