Domaine de Galouchey - Vin de Jardin 2018
Domaine de Galouchey is located in Beychac-et-Caillau, in the Libournais region of Bordeaux. The estate was created in 2002 by three friends: Marco Pelletier (a Quebecer with a degree in civil engineering), Jean Terrade (a “backpacker” tour operator) and Gérard Pantanacce (a former decorator). The area of the vineyard planted with the typical Bordeaux grape varieties is 0.94 hectares, a garden which gives its name to their cuvée declassified as table wine; Vin de Jardin (‘Garden Wine’). The first winemaking trials began in 2004 but the first vintage, which produced 630 bottles, was released in 2007. Due to beginners' mistakes, the 2008 vintage does not exist. Today, the team keeps pace and typically produces 6,000-7,000 bottles each year. The vines are cultivated without fertilizers or pesticides and the vinification is carried out without adding sulfur.
The grapes are harvested manually and vinified by infusion, without punching down. Aging lasts from 16 to 18 months in barrels of second wines supplied to them by friends from the great chateaux.
Grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carménère, Petit Verdot
