Heartland - Shiraz 2019
Heartland is a winery located in Langhorne Creek, in South Australia. It was founded in the late 1990s by winemaker Ben Glaetzer (from Glaetzer Wines) along with Scott Collett, Grant Tilbrook and more recently Nick Keukenmeester. Ben Glaetzer makes Heartland Wines at Barossa Vintners in Tanunda, South Australia some 100 kilometres from Langhorne Creek. However, their own vineyard in Langhorne Creek is heavily involved in the reintroduction of native species with plantings of indigenous trees, grasses and bushes throughout the property. This in turn, creates a haven for native fauna. They have implemented stringent water controls, restricting usage and tailoring watering to the needs of individual varieties. They also have introduced goats as a natural way to add back to the soil and to keep grass and weeds at bay.
The grapes of Shiraz are destemmed, crushed and pumped over twice a day for 10 days. The wine was matured in older oak barrels for 12 months.
Grape variety: 100% Shiraz
