François Labet - Pinot Noir - Ile de Beauté 2020
The winemaker François Labet has been responsible for the wines of Domaine Pierre Labet since 1984 and vinifies the wines of his well-known estate: Château de la Tour in Burgundy, which produces a range of Grand Cru wines in the Clos Vougeot vineyard. François Labet owns a holiday home in Corsica and over the years he has fallen in love with the rocky high altitude terroirs. He thought the higher areas of the island would be suitable for growing Pinot Noir, and when the opportunity arose to plant vines, he wasted no time in jumping at the chance. The vineyard is located northwest of Porto Vecchio, on the east coast in the southern region of Corsica. It sits on the geological fault line separating Southern Corsica and Upper Corsica, each composed of soil shale and granite. The 25-hectare vineyard is also made up of metamorphic rocks from the foothills. It enjoys exceptional sunshine and a temperate climate of the sea and the mountain barrier of 600 meters above sea level. This terroir allows the emblematic grape variety of Burgundy to express itself fully.
The Pinot Noir grapes are entirely destemmed, unlike his Burgundies. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks (2/3) and in barrels of 2 wines (1/3). It was bottled in Beaune.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
