Château HAUT MARBUZET - Magnum 2008
Château Haut-Marbuzet is located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation in Bordeaux , and has belonged to Hervé Duboscq since 1952. The property was one of the first Crus Bourgeois in 1932, promoted to Grand Bourgeois Exceptionnels in 1978 and confirmed as one nine Crus Bourgeois Exceptionnels in 2003. The vineyard is located between Château Montrose and Cos d'Estournel, and has around 40 hectares of vines planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are harvested as late as possible and aged in new oak barrels for 18 months .
For Bordeaux, the 2008 vintage was a good year , but the weather had some surprises in store, with the growing season beginning with a mild winter. Early spring brought cool, wet weather, which brought on both rot and disease, making spraying essential. The wet cold conditions delayed and disrupted both bud break and flowering, and coulure was also a problem. Heavy frosts in April devastated Merlot yields and severe hailstorms followed. Cool, wet conditions persisted throughout the summer, but with just enough sunshine. Despite the lackluster summer, mid-September finally brought great weather, with warm days and cool nights. The extended growing season allowed most grapes to reach full maturity.
