Château YON-FIGEAC 1989
Château Yon-Figeac is a Grand Cru Classé located in Saint-Emilion , on the right bank of Bordeaux. With 24 hectares of vines, Château Yon-Figeac is one of the largest estates in the Saint-Émilion appellation. Alain Château bought the estate in 2005. An engineer by industrial training, his passion for wine led him to learn the tricks of the trade in several estates in the Anjou region, and the opportunity arose to pursue a new wine adventure in Saint-Émilion. He immediately sought the expertise of Denis Dubourdieu, professor at the Faculty of Oenology in Bordeaux. He has also surrounded himself with a team of high-level professionals, including consultant oenologist Christophe Ollivier and vineyard manager Paulin Escouboué. They have been using sustainable farming methods since 2011 and adopting a winemaking philosophy that is more respectful of the environment and the people working in the vineyard all year round.
The work in the vineyard is mainly done manually, allowing maximum precision and the grapes are harvested by hand. Each parcel is fermented separately and once the fermentation is complete, the different batches are also aged separately. The wines that will make up the Grand Vin are aged exclusively in French oak barrels for 1 year, 35% of which are new .
The 1989 vintage for Bordeaux is widely regarded as one of the greatest. After a mild winter, a wet spring and a very cold April, Bordeaux experienced one of the hottest summers since 1949. The conditions were such that they caused an unusually early harvest. Harvesting finally wrapped up in mid-October, producing a bountiful and healthy crop.
Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc
