Donnafugata - Ben Rye 2020
Donnafugata is located in Marsala, Sicily . The estate was created in 1983 by Giacomo and Gabriella Rallo . The company has five different wineries located in different sub-regions of Sicily, including the neighboring island of Pantelleria. The winery has a proven track record of sustainable and eco-friendly practices and has a number of certifications. In 2011, Donnafugata started calculating the carbon footprint of its wines and, since 2014, these calculations are displayed on the bottles. The Donnafugata labels designed by Stefano Vitale are works of art created or inspired by Gabriella Rallo, just like the names of the wines, a tribute to art and literature.
Donnafugata was established on the volcanic island of Pantelleria in 1989. The 68-hectare vineyard is spread over 16 different districts. In 2010, in Pantelleria, 33 Zibibbo biotypes from different areas of the Mediterranean (Spain, France, Greece and southern Italy) were planted.
Ben Ryé is made from Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria). It is the result of a production process based on the natural raisining of fresh grapes arranged on racks and then the manual stripping of the raisins. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. The raisins are added to the fresh must in several stages. During maceration, the raisins release their unique aroma. The aging lasts 8 months, then 12 months in the bottle. This Passito contains 192 g/L of residual sugars.
Grape variety: 100% Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria)
