Chateau de Bourgueneuf 1994
Château Bourgneuf (formerly known in some markets as Château Bourgneuf Vayron or Bourgueneuf) is located in the Pomerol appellation on the right bank of the Bordeaux wine region. The estate has belonged to the Vayron family since the 1840s. The current owners Xavier and Dominique Vayron took over in the 1970s and, although they run the operation with their daughter Frédérique, the latter controls the estate and the winemaking. of the property. The vineyard covers 9 hectares on the gentle slope of the Pomerol plateau, neighboring Château Trotanoy and Château L'Eglise Clinet. Soil types vary throughout the vineyard, with pure clay, a mixture of clay and sand and gravels.
The wine is predominantly Merlot supplemented with Cabernet Franc, and aged in French oak barrels for 12 to 14 months, with a third of new barrels. The 1994 vintage in Bordeaux had a wet April, but the spring was ideal and led to early flowering. The summer was hot and sunny until a deluge hit on September 7, and continuing through the rest of the month, but conditions were too cool to encourage rot. Careful grape selection was crucial to avoid overly dilute berries. Pomerol , with an early Merlot, was the first appellation to be harvested and produced the best wines as a result.
