Domaine Jean Michel GERIN - Côte Rôtie - La Viallière 2021
Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin is located on the Côte Rôtie , in the village of Ampuis , in the north of the Rhône Valley . Jean-Michel Gerin acquired his first plot of vines in Côte Rôtie in 1983. Four years later, he released his first vintage, followed closely by his first wine from a single vineyard: Les Grandes Places, in 1988 and La Landonne in 1996. The estate's most recent production came in 2009 with the production of La Viallière from a vineyard planted in 2003 in Côte Rôtie. Today the estate extends over nearly 17 hectares and the family's two sons, Michaël and Alexis, participate in viticulture. It was in 2020 that the decision was made to launch the conversion to organic farming .
La Viallière is made from Syrah from the 1.75 hectare plot in the place called La Viallière whose terroir is made up of schist and mica schist. After complete destemming, the grapes macerate for 4 weeks. Aging is carried out in new demi-muids (70%) and in demi-muids of 1 or 2 wines (30%) for 22 months .
