Château Climens 2012
Château Climens is located in Barsac , in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified as a Premier Cru in the 1885 classification of Sauternes and Barsac . Climens is one of the rare Bordeaux châteaux to produce its wines from a single grape variety, Sémillon . Château Climens has been in the Lurton family since the 1970s, and in 1992 the estate came under the control of Bernice Lurton . In 2010, Climens began practicing biodynamic winemaking and viticulture, and the 2014 vintage was the first to be fully biodynamic certified .
Botrytis develops on grapes due to the foggy mornings, humidity and warmer afternoons that are typical during the months before harvest. If the grapes are not of the highest quality, or if botrytis has not formed properly, Bernice Lurton and her team will not produce Château Climens. The grapes are harvested and brought into the cellar, plot by plot, where they are gently pressed before fermentation in oak barrels . Aging takes place in French oak barrels on lees for approximately 20 months .
Grape variety: 100% Semillon
