Domaine Robert Denogent - La Croix 2023
Domaine Robert-Denogent is located in the commune of Fuissé, in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy . The Denogent family began its winemaking business at the beginning of the 20th century: Andrée Robert (née Denogent) owned 5 hectares of vines. His son, Jean-Jacques Robert, took over the estate in 1989 and changed its name to Robert-Denogent. In 2006, the eldest son Nicolas joined his father on the estate, followed by his brother Antoine in 2012. Since 2015, the two non-conformist brothers have been in charge of the property. They are bringing a breath of fresh air, influenced by iconic winemakers from Beaujolais, Jura, Savoie and, of course, Burgundy. The vineyard covers 13 hectares, divided into 30 plots and offering a diversity of terroirs, exposures and altitudes. Nicolas and Antoine follow an artisanal approach to produce "peasant" wines: respect for biodiversity, few interventions, limited use of sulfur, no filtration.
La Croix is made from Chardonnay sourced exclusively from plots in Pouilly-Fuissé. The vines are grown on loamy and schist soils on finely fragmented volcano-sedimentary rock, the average age of the vines is 75 years. Vinification is natural, without input and very little intervention. The wine is aged for 21 months on fine lees : mainly in various wooden containers (228-litre Burgundy barrels, 350, 400 and 500-litre barrels, 600-litre demi-muids and foudres), but also in stainless steel, enamelled and ovoid concrete vats .
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
"La Croix 2023 reveals a vibrant and deep Chardonnay, with a precise attack and a chiseled palate. It reveals aromas of juicy pear, yuzu zest and rubbed flint. The texture is saline, almost crystalline, carried by taut acidity and a long, salivating finish."
