ARDBEG – Anthology – The Beithir’s Tale – 15 Years – Charred Bourbon Casks – 46%
Located on the island of Islay, a wild land emblematic of great peated whiskies, Ardbeg is renowned worldwide for the intensity of its malts and the singularity of its style. Since 1815, the distillery has upheld a centuries-old tradition while exploring new horizons through limited editions. The Anthology collection perfectly illustrates this spirit of innovation, offering atypical cuvées with bold profiles.
The third chapter in the Anthology range, The Beithir’s Tale is a single malt aged fifteen years in bourbon casks specially prepared—air-dried for a long period and then lightly charred. This double wood treatment imparts a unique aromatic depth, where the power of peat is enriched with refined woody nuances. Its name refers to the Beithir, a mythical Scottish creature akin to a serpent of fire, symbolizing power and vitality, just like this whisky.
The pale golden robe reveals luminous elegance. The nose opens with dense, captivating smoke, intertwined with notes of soft tar, freshly ground coffee, candied citrus, and delicate undergrowth. On the palate, the attack is bold and warming, marked by expressive, saline peat, softened by vanilla, lemon, and subtle herbal and leathery touches. The ample, velvety texture balances intensity with refinement. The long finish lingers with oily, saline peat enriched by grilled vanilla, smoky butter, and gentle spices.
Ardbeg The Beithir’s Tale is a 15-year-old Islay single malt matured in toasted and lightly charred bourbon casks, bottled at 46% ABV. A limited edition in the Anthology collection, it combines power, complexity, and elegance, making it a rare release to discover and collect.
