Bordeaux Distilling - Adventure No. 1 - French Rye Whisky - 4 years - French oak barrels - Organic - 43%
A new addition to the Bordeaux craft scene, Aventure No. 1 inaugurates a series dedicated to stylistic explorations by Bordeaux Distilling. Conceived by a collective of four partners, including actor Jean Dujardin, this French rye whisky boasts a workshop spirit and resolutely contemporary elegance. The ambition is clear: to create a precise, gastronomic rye whisky that is faithful to its origins, where oceanic freshness and the depth of French oak barrels interact without artifice.
The production is based on certified organic rye, the majority in the blend, fermented slowly to favor a clear aromatic framework then distilled in small passes in a pot still. The four-year maturation in French oak barrels gives a silky texture and delicate spicy nuances, while respecting the natural straightness of the rye. The choice of a bottling strength of 43% underlines the balance between expressiveness and drinkability, with a full, precise and perfectly controlled mouthfeel.
The nose opens with the refined markers of rye: bakery spices, sweet pepper, caraway and a hint of cinnamon, followed by notes of orange peel, dried flowers and light honey. The palate is straight and generous, carried by toasted cereal, natural vanilla from the oak, hazelnut and a touch of cocoa, with a savory tension that avoids any heaviness. The finish, long and clean, unfolds a very fine spicy and woody thread, with a discreet saline relief reminiscent of the Atlantic influence.
At the table and bar, Aventure No. 1 demonstrates great versatility. Serve it neat around 16 to 18°C, or with a drop of water to highlight the rye's spices. It makes a precise and lively Manhattan, a very elegant rye Old Fashioned, and a clear highball that highlights its freshness. On the gastronomic side, it pairs well with grilled duck breast, herb-roasted poultry, mature Comté cheese, lightly sweetened dark chocolate, or a caramelized walnut tart.
This first edition affirms the positioning of Bordeaux Distilling: an organic French rye whisky, with character but without ostentation, made in small quantities and designed for immediate pleasure as much as for high-end mixology.
