Champagne Marguet - Yuman 23 - Premier Cru - Blanc de Blancs
Located in Ambonnay, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, the Champagne Marguet estate has established itself as one of the major faces of a contemporary Champagne focused on terroir and biodynamics. The property, managed by Benoît Marguet, extends over several plots distributed between Ambonnay, Bouzy, and other prestigious villages in the region. Since the early 2010s, the vines have been cultivated according to biodynamic principles, with soil work done by horse and an approach that favors soil vitality and the natural expression of the grape. This philosophy is reflected in all the estate's cuvées, conceived as precise interpretations of their original terroirs. In this logic, the Yuman cuvée was designed as a vibrant and accessible blanc de blancs, revealing with purity the identity of Chardonnay from Premier Cru terroirs of the Montagne de Reims. It embodies a vision of champagne that is both artisanal, energetic, and deeply connected to nature.
Champagne Marguet Yuman 23 Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs is made exclusively from Chardonnay, notably from the villages of Villeneuve-Renneville and Villers-Marmery, two Premier Cru classified terroirs renowned for the finesse and freshness of their wines. This cuvée is produced according to the estate's biodynamic principles, with manual harvesting and vineyard work without heavy mechanization to preserve soil life. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation can be carried out in barrels before additional aging in enamelled tanks, in an approach aimed at preserving precision and tension. True to the Marguet style, the dosage is extremely low or even zero, placing this cuvée in the universe of Brut Nature champagnes. Sulfur additions are also very limited, around 12 mg/l according to information provided by the estate, to preserve the wine's energy and purity. Altogether, this gives rise to a champagne that favors the direct expression of fruit and terroir rather than a marked oenological signature.
On tasting, Yuman 23 stands out with a particularly bright and tense profile. The nose evokes white fruits, fresh citrus, and sometimes delicate floral nuances, accompanied by a chalky mineral sensation typical of great Champagne Chardonnays. The palate combines richness and precision, with ample texture supported by a lively acidity that brings verticality and length. The fine bubbles extend this sensation of freshness and highlight the aromatic purity of the wine. This champagne is suitable both as a refined aperitif and for gastronomic pairings with seafood, raw fish, sashimi, or an iodized and precise cuisine. In a specialized catalog, it represents an ideal reference for lovers of grower champagnes, biodynamic and low dosage, seeking a pure and vibrant expression of Champagne Chardonnay.
