Biondi Santi - Brunello Di Montalcino - Riserva 1957
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

BIONDI-SANTI - BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO - RISERVA IL GREPPO 1957
Symbol of Montalcino, the surname Biondi Santi remains one of the most notorious of the appellation and signs one of the best Brunello in the region. The oenologist, Jacopo Biondi Santi, follows the path traced by his ancestors - Clemente, Jacopo, Ferruccio, Tancredi and Franco - at the Il Greppo estate. After the arrival of phylloxera in the second half of the 19th century, the family developed a specific clone, known today as BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), including its Brunello Biondi Santi - Tenuta Greppo, unique in its kind, is issued. The estate's success for over 200 years has been based on rigorous clonal selection of Sangiovese, as well as a hands-off approach to winemaking. The study of clones continues today at Castello di Montepò, a medieval stone castle, which has been part of the family heritage since its creation in the 1880s.

Montalcino, homeland of great red wines, offers connoisseurs one of its jewels, Rosso DOC. It is a wine which is born from the vineyards of Brunello but which is marketed without the traditional aging of the "elder brother". It is nevertheless a product of great prestige which developed qualitatively after the DOC concession (1983). Rosso di Montalcino has the merit of having paved the way, even in Italy for "cascade" appellations, where several wines with designation of origin are produced from a single vineyard. The farms have in fact the possibility of choosing, either during the harvest or during the aging, whether the wine or the grape will be destined to become Brunello, or addressed to the production or to the bottling of Rosso di Montalcino. A choice well exploited by the producers considering that this DOC absorbs 40% of the production based on Sangiovese "grosso".

It is the same area as that of Brunello, namely the territory of the municipality of Montalcino, excluding the areas of the valley floor.
