Gaja - Barbaresco 2012
Barbaresco DOCG

GAJA - Barbaresco 2012

This Barbaresco offers a superb floral nose of cherry, strawberry and toasty scents. Ripe, dense and fleshy wine with a sensual and elegant personality.
This wine is the most representative of the Barbaresco wines produced by Angelo Gaja.

Established in the Piedmont region of Italy, the Gaja estate is renowned for its development techniques which have revolutionized the vinification of Italian wines.

Rooted in the Italian wine-growing landscape for more than five generations, the estate has been producing Piedmont wines since 1859, when Giovanni Gaja founded the Gaja Winery. His son, Angelo (grandfather of the current owner) continues the work under the influence of his wife, Clothilde Rey, who inspires him to create a real tradition signed Gaja. From their union will be born a son: Giovanni who will continue to follow in the footsteps of his parents by producing famous Barbaresco throughout Italy.

Giovanni will expand the vineyard even more by buying wineries like Tildin, Costa Russi, San Lorenzo etc allowing the Gaja family to produce wines of incredible quality only from their own vineyards, they do not buy any grapes. to trading.

The current owner, Angelo Gaja was born in 1940 and began his career at the estate at the age of 21 in 1961. After several trips to France, he introduced several practices in the region and revolutionized the vinification of Nebbiolo. Since 1970, Angelo Gaja has worked with the famous oenologist Guido Rivella. It is also the first house to use new French oak barrels which have improved the quality of the wine by softening the very hard tannins of Nebbiolo to bring out all its finesse. He was also the very first winemaker to plant Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc in place of Nebbiolo, to the detriment of his father. The latter, moreover, at the sight of these grape variety imports would have said in the vineyard "Damagi" which means "what a pity" and would have given its name to the Cabernet planted by Angelo Gaja, recognized today as one of the best Cabernet in the world.

Very controversial, Angelo Gaja has always been ahead of his time and sees things differently compared to others. He has strongly contributed to the development of Piedmont wines and more particularly the wines of Barbaresco and Barolo which he has placed among the best Italian wines in the world.
