Clos Larrouyat - Météore 2025
Clos Larrouyat is one of the most unique and sought-after estates in Jurançon. Located in Gan, Béarn, Maxime and Lucie Salharang work a tiny vineyard of about three hectares, inherited from Maxime's grandfather. The estate quickly established itself through a very personal interpretation of Jurançon, based on freshness, tension, and great precision on the palate. The vines, facing east and protected from the excesses of the setting sun, allow for moderate alcohol levels and remarkable acidity. The Triassic marl soils give the wines a mineral energy, salinity, and uprightness that strongly distinguish them in the appellation's landscape. Météore 2025 fits into this rare identity, with a dry Jurançon that is chiselled, bright, and deeply digestible. It is an ideal cuvée for lovers of taut, vibrant whites capable of combining aromatic intensity and great drinkability.
The Météore 2025 cuvée is made from Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng, two emblematic grape varieties of dry Jurançon. Gros Manseng brings drive, citrus, freshness, and a very mouthwatering acidic framework. Petit Manseng enhances density, aromatic depth, and a perfectly balanced ripe fruit sensation held by acidity. At Clos Larrouyat, balance never relies on heaviness but on an almost crystalline tension, a signature of the place and the vineyard work. The vinifications aim to preserve the purity of the fruit, the precision of the terroir, and the natural energy of the grapes. Aging in several wine barrels, generally discreet on this cuvée, adds a slight patina without marking the wine with wood. The result is a dry Jurançon that is both fine, tonic, and very expressive, far from overly round or demonstrative whites.
In the glass, Clos Larrouyat Météore 2025 reveals a lively, saline, and intensely refreshing profile. The nose evokes lemon, grapefruit, white peach, fresh fruits, and white flowers, with a nuance of wet stone and fine almond. The palate is straight, energetic, and very taut, supported by precise acidity that gives great length. The texture remains fine but persistent, with a saline sensation that extends the finish and naturally calls for food. This dry Jurançon has enough depth to accompany refined dishes while maintaining immediate drinkability. It will be superb with seafood, grilled fish, creamy poultry, cod blanquette, sheep's milk cheeses, or citrus-based cuisine. Serve around 10 to 12°C in a sufficiently open glass to reveal all its tension, purity, and aromatic brightness.
