Domaine Alain Graillot - Hermitage 2023
Domaine Alain Graillot is a major reference in the northern Rhône valley, historically established in Pont-de-l’Isère and recognized for the precision and sincerity of its wines. Founded in 1985 by Alain Graillot, the estate is now run by his sons Maxime and Antoine, who continue with rigor to express the truest expression of the great Rhône terroirs. The Hermitage cuvée comes from parcels located on the mythical Hermitage hill, an exceptional terroir composed mainly of poor and demanding granitic soils. These steep slopes, with varied exposures and benefiting from the regulating influence of the Rhône, offer the Syrah unparalleled depth and structure. The 2023 vintage marks an important milestone for the estate, as it is the very first Hermitage produced by the Graillot family, the result of long-term work and a measured and thoughtful approach.
Hermitage 2023 expresses a deep, noble, and perfectly mastered Syrah. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe black fruits, blackcurrant, and blueberry, complemented by notes of violet, black pepper, graphite, and fine smoke. The palate is ample and dense, structured by a tight tannic framework but of great finesse. The natural acidity brings freshness and verticality, stretching the wine with elegance and precision. The vinification favors measured extraction and a pure expression of the terroir, with a thoughtful use of whole bunches. The aging, long and discreet, supports the material without ever dominating the identity of the wine.
This first Hermitage vintage at Domaine Alain Graillot stands out for its remarkable balance and exceptional aging potential. At the table, it ideally accompanies noble meats, game, or gastronomic dishes with deep flavors. Its length and contained power make it a wine for contemplation as well as a great meal wine. This cuvée inaugurates a new chapter in the estate’s history while remaining faithful to the finesse and restraint signature that makes the Graillot name renowned. A rare, ambitious Hermitage deeply rooted in its terroir.
