Domaine François Chidaine - Clos du Breuil 2024
Located between Montlouis sur Loire and Vouvray, Domaine François Chidaine has become a major reference for the great Chenins of the Loire Valley, thanks to exemplary organic and biodynamic viticulture. Soil work, limited yields, and manual harvesting aim to preserve the energy of the grape variety and the precision of the limestone terroirs. Each cuvée is conceived as the expression of a place, with minimal intervention vinifications and long aging on lees. The wines stand out for their purity, tension, and great aging potential. Clos du Breuil 2024 fits into this quest for uprightness and balance, in a dry, luminous, and deeply digestible style.
Clos du Breuil 2024 comes from an exposed hillside, planted with Chenin on clay-siliceous soils resting on tuffeau, which bring verticality and aromatic finesse. The vines, grown without synthetic products, are hand-harvested at precise maturity to reconcile concentration and freshness. The grapes are pressed slowly and delicately, then the juices ferment thanks to indigenous yeasts only, without oenological artifices. Aging takes place in demi-muids and large containers, on fine lees, to bring relief without weighing down the structure. The wine is bottled with very measured sulfur to preserve its lively and salivating profile.
On the palate, Clos du Breuil 2024 offers a precise nose of ripe lemon, grapefruit, fresh pear, and white flowers, complemented by a chalky touch. On the palate, the attack is straight and tense, supported by a fine acidity that stretches the wine and highlights the purity of the fruit. The mid-palate blends zesty citrus, white fruits, fine herbs, and a marked minerality that brings real tactile relief. The finish is long, clean, with noble bitterness of lemon peel and a slight salinity that immediately invites another sip. At the table, it ideally accompanies grilled or ceviche fish, shellfish, seasonal vegetable cuisine, roasted poultry, and Loire goat cheeses. Served slightly chilled, it presents itself as a great gastronomic white, already delicious but destined for a beautiful evolution in the cellar.
