Domaine Les Poëte - Toison d'Or 2022
Located in Preuilly, in the Berry region, Domaine Les Poëte was born from Guillaume Sorbe's desire to reveal the potential of the Reuilly and Quincy terroirs through wines of great precision. A former sommelier from a family of winemakers, he has developed a personal approach to viticulture based on biodiversity, soil observation, and as measured an intervention as possible. His vines evolve within a landscape where meadows, trees, and natural spaces coexist, far from an exclusively productive conception of the vineyard. The Toison d'Or belongs to the most ambitious cuvées of the estate and highlights Sauvignon Blanc on the Quincy terroirs. This historic appellation of the Centre-Loire, located on the old alluvial terraces of the Cher, is distinguished by its sandy and gravelly soils that promote drainage and deep rooting. Guillaume Sorbe seeks to express a more complex and structured dimension of Sauvignon here, without sacrificing the freshness that constitutes the identity of the grape variety. The name of the cuvée, borrowed from Greek mythology, extends the poetic universe of the estate and emphasizes the unique character of this selection.
The 2022 Toison d'Or is made exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc, coming from parcels selected for the quality of their grapes and their ability to produce wines of great depth. Vineyard management favors controlled yields and constant attention to ripeness, in order to preserve the balance between aromatic richness and natural acidity. The harvest is carried out carefully, seeking precision rather than excessive concentration. The vinification is designed to respect the identity of Sauvignon and allow the personality of the terroir to express itself, avoiding overly marked interventions. The aging contributes to building the wine's texture and developing its complexity, without seeking a dominant oaky imprint. The 2022 vintage, marked by a hot and dry summer in the Centre-Loire, favored generous ripeness and a beautiful concentration of grapes. The 2022 Toison d'Or should thus combine ample and structured matter with freshness sufficiently affirmed to maintain the elegance sought by Guillaume Sorbe.
The 2022 Toison d'Or reveals a complex and nuanced bouquet where ripe citrus fruits, white peach, and yellow fruits meet notes of white flowers and fine herbs. On aeration, nuances of candied lemon, ripe pear, and wet stone bring more depth to the aromatic expression. The palate has generous matter, with an enveloping texture that distinguishes this cuvée from the more immediate Sauvignons of the appellation. A precise acidity nevertheless runs through the whole and maintains a constant sensation of freshness and energy. The finish is long, marked by fine citrus bitters and a mineral dimension that prolong the tasting. Already accessible, the 2022 Toison d'Or has the necessary structure to evolve favorably over several years, gradually developing nuances of dried fruits, wax, and soft spices. It will pair particularly well with turbot with beurre blanc, seared scallops, roasted lobster, creamy poultry, or aged goat cheese.
