Maison Camille Thiriet - Bourgogne Chardonnay - Cuvée Confidentielle 2024
Maison Camille Thiriet Bourgogne Chardonnay Cuvée Confidentielle 2024 perfectly illustrates the artisanal and precise spirit of one of the most followed estates of the new generation of Burgundy winemakers. Located in Corgoloin, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Camille Thiriet and Matt Chittick founded their house in 2016 after several significant experiences in the world of great Burgundy wines. Their work is based on deliberately limited productions, extreme attention to the grapes, and a desire to reveal sometimes less expected appellations. This cuvée lives up to its name, as it fits into a logic of rarity, selection, and precision. Coming from a century-old plot located in Mâcon-Cruzille, it is deliberately downgraded to Bourgogne Blanc to prioritize balance, freshness, and freedom of expression. The 2024 vintage highlights a chiselled, vibrant, and very pure Chardonnay. It is a confidential, refined, and sought-after bottle, ideal for lovers of taut and mineral white Burgundies.
This Chardonnay comes from a very old plot, whose age naturally brings concentration, depth, and complexity. The terroir of Mâcon-Cruzille here gives a particularly straight expression, marked by minerality, freshness, and a beautiful limestone energy. The 10-month barrel aging supports the material without trying to dominate the wine with wood. It brings volume, a slight patina, and a sensation of texture, while leaving the natural tension of the grape variety intact. The choice to downgrade to Bourgogne Blanc allows the estate to offer a free and unique interpretation of a great Burgundy Chardonnay. The whole is built on the purity of the fruit, the precision of the touch, and a salivating finish. The style remains fine, taut, and deeply gastronomic, with this signature freshness that makes Camille Thiriet's wines so seductive.
On tasting, the color presents as a bright light yellow with discreet golden reflections. The nose evokes ripe lemon, fresh pear, white flowers, chalk, gunflint, and a very delicate iodized touch. The palate is straight, harmonious, and precise, carried by fine acidity and affirmed minerality. The material gains relief thanks to the aging but retains a great sensation of purity and momentum. The finish is savory, saline, and persistent, with a return to citrus, wet stone, and fine noble bitterness. This white can be served around 10 to 12°C, in a white wine glass, after slight aeration if the bottle is opened young. It will ideally accompany scallops, a noble fish, langoustines, creamy poultry, mushroom risotto, aged goat cheese, or a citrus vegetable cuisine.
