This wine is the main production of Château Fombrauge , an estate of Saint-Émilion which was promoted Grand Cru Classé in September 2012 when the classification was revised. 53 hectares of vines out of around 58 are used for its production. They are located on the edge and on the limestone plateau which carries the most prestigious areas of the appellation , with the presence of clay or iron dross depending on the plots.
After manual harvesting in small boxes, the vinification is done by plots, by terroir and by age of the vines in small wooden vats to best express each batch . A triple aging follows: 40% in new barrels, 40% in one-wine barrels and 20% in concrete vats, for 18 months.
Thus is born a velvety, creamy, almost suave Saint-Émilion, with well-coated tannins. The extraordinary consistency of recent vintages - Bernard Burtschy gives them all a 16/20 - is the finest proof of the quality of this wine.
