Château Canon occupies a limestone terrace facing south-west which constitutes most of its area. A quarter of the area is for its part located on the slope of this slope gently sloping towards the Dordogne. This imposing mass of sedimentary rocks is crisscrossed with numerous galleries which bear witness to the exploitation of this building material since the 16th century. The site rises to 87 meters.
The plots of vines are grouped into a 22-hectare set which has very homogeneous soils of asteroid limestone covered with a thin layer of clay of lake origin.
In 1760, the lieutenant of the frigate and privateer with the eponymous name - Jacques Kanon, originally from Blayais - acquired the Domaine de Saint-Martin thanks to the substantial profits from the races he carried out for Louis XV at the expense of the ships. English. He immediately undertook the construction of an elegant residence in the vicinity of which he developed the monoculture of the vine on all these plots, a strategy extremely rare at that time. Later in 1919, the Fournier family took over the reins of the château before handing them over to Chanel in 1996.
Since that day, with unalterable passion, everything has been done to preserve the heritage of the founders.
