Domaine de Beaurenard - Blanc 2019
Domaine de Beaurenard is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône Valley. It has been a family estate for 7 generations, today managed by brothers Daniel and Frédéric Coulon. The vineyard covers 32 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 25 hectares in Rasteau and 6 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône. They cultivate the 13 grape varieties authorised for the AOC there, and the average age of the vines is around 45 years. All vineyards are managed in certified organic farming, and also cultivated in certified biodynamics. The grapes, harvested manually at optimum maturity, are taken to the winery in small capacity boxes to prevent crushing of the grains, which would cause oxidation to be detrimental to quality.
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape white is a blend of 8 white grape varieties of the appellation: Clairette Blanche & Rose, Grenache Blanc & Gris, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Picpoul, Picardan. The pressing of the grapes is soft and long, then the co-fermentation is spontaneous with the indigenous yeasts. Aging lasts 6 months, in a combination of stainless steel vats, small foudres and oak barrels.
