Domaine Courbis - Saint Joseph Rouge 2019
Domaine Courbis is located in Châteaubourg, in the Ardèche. The brothers Laurent and Dominique now operate the family wine estate which dates back to the 16th century. The estate is the southernmost of the Saint-Joseph appellation, bordering on the Cornas appellation and is made up of around 35 hectares of vines.
The Saint-Joseph Rouge is made from Syrah. The manual harvest is entirely destemmed. The vinification takes place in closed stainless steel vats. The temperature is controlled at 30-32°C for maximum colour extraction. Maceration lasts 12 to 15 days. Aging lasts 14 months: 15 to 20% in vats, 20% in one-wine barrels, 55 to 60% in barrels of 2, 3 and 4 wines.
