THE FOURTET CLOSERIE 2019
Clos Fourtet is located in Saint-Emilion , in the Bordeaux region. It has been classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the Saint-Emilion classification. Formerly called Camp Fourtet ("Little Fort"), it was designed to protect the town of Saint-Emilion in the Middle Ages. Winemaking at the property began in the 18th century. Clos Fourtet underwent several changes of ownership during the 20th century before being bought by the Cuvelier family in 2001. The vineyard covers 20 hectares in one piece and is managed using sustainable methods with the use of organic treatments and biodynamic methods, not certified. The soils of the estate are naturally fertilized by their cows and the ecosystem is reinforced by the presence of wild flowers and shrubs.
La Closerie de Fourtet is the second wine of Clos Fourtet. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot . The grapes are harvested in whole berries then transferred to the winemaking cellar, in small stainless steel vats, by gravity. Manual punching down is carried out so that the grape skins and seeds release aromas, tannins and color. The vatting lasts from 25 to 30 days followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels. The aging lasts from 12 to 15 months in barrels , of which approximately 70% are new.
Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
