Marchesi di Barolo - Barolo 1993
Marchesi di Barolo is located in Piedmont, in Italy. The business was established in the early 1800s, when Carlo Tancredi Falletti, the Marquis of Barolo, married the French noblewoman Giulia Colbert de Maulévrier. Giulia Colbert is one of the first female entrepreneurs in history. As soon as she arrived in Barolo, she understood the potential of the Nebbiolo grape. She provided the impetus to the development of the estate that bore her husband's name. Five generations of the Abbona family have now owned and managed the company. The estate controls around 120 hectares of vineyards and makes a wide portfolio of wines from all of the principal varieties of the region. Winemaking combines the modern and traditional.
The grapes used in the production of this wine come from vineyards located on nicely sloped hills. Initially the wine ages in small oak barrels, then it is blended in the traditional large Slavonian oak barrels. The wine completes its ageing in the bottle for some months before going onto the market.
1993 is excellent; a wine with a good structure and a commendable balance among its components. Intense and well-expressed aromas and relatively forward tannins but with good prospects for further development. Barolo reaches maturity 4 years after being harvested and the peak condition is between 4 and 20 years.
Grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo
