Château PLINCE 1996
Château Plince is located in the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. It has belonged to the Moreau family for more than a century. The property covers an area in one piece of about ten hectares. Its vineyard, covering an area of 8.66 hectares, rests on dark sandy soil with a high content of iron grime, typical of Pomerol.
Château Plince is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc . The grapes are vinified in cement vats, built by Félix Moreau from 1942. The maceration lasts 3 to 4 weeks then the wine is transferred to barrels. The aging lasts about 12 months, with 1/3 new barrels. The 1996 vintage is considered an excellent vintage in Pomerol. The winter was mild and the spring warm, with the month of March bringing significant heat. May was cool and warmed up again in June before dropping again in early July. In late July-early August, temperatures recovered before cooler temperatures set in towards the end of the month. A hot and dry September contributed to the ripening of the grapes.
