Château RIEUSSEC 1994
Château Rieussec is located in Fargues, in the Sauternes appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified Premier Grand Cru Classé in the classification of Sauternes and Barsac in 1855. After several owners, it now belongs to the Barons de Rothschild (owner of Château Lafite Rothschild) in partnership with LVMH. Château Rieussec is one of the most important properties in Sauternes and Barsac, the vines cover 93 hectares of gravelly sandy clay soil.
Château Rieussec is a blend of Sémillon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc . The wine is aged for 18 to 26 months depending on the vintage, in barrels of which 50 to 55% are new. The 1994 vintage in Sauternes experienced severe spring frosts, which particularly affected Barsac. However, bud break and flowering were successful and the growing season continued reasonably well throughout the summer. The good conditions did not last due to a deluge of rain in September which diluted the grapes, decimated yields and may have introduced both rot and disease. October finally saw the return of good weather, the sunny days were able to save part of the vintage.
Grapes: Semillon, Muscadelle, Sauvignon Blanc
