Birichino - Bechthold Vineyard Cinsault 2023
Birichino is located in Santa Cruz, California , USA . The winery was founded in 2008 by Alex Krause and John Locke after 40 years of winemaking experience in California, France, Italy, and elsewhere. They source their wines from a number of family vineyards planted in the 19th and early 20th centuries, carefully cultivated in more moderate, marine-influenced climates. Their preference is for minimal intervention, most often favoring fermentations with indigenous yeasts, using neutral barrels or stainless steel tanks, minimal racking and fining, and avoiding filtration altogether when possible. They work from nine vineyards: Antle, Bechthold, Besson, Boer, Enz, Jurassic Park, Lilo, Oasis, and Peter Martin Ray.
This wine is made from Cinsault grapes from the Bechthold vineyard. The vines, planted in 1886, are non-irrigated and cultivated organically. The harvest is hand-picked and the vinification is done by bleeding. The wine is aged for 9 months in neutral barrels .
Grape variety: 100% Cinsault
"A fresh and fluid wine, carried by a beautiful simplicity that evokes the rigor of an ancient terroir. The light texture and the delicacy of the fruit leave an impression of naturalness and authenticity."
