Château LES CARMES HAUT BRION 2021
Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is located in Pessac-Léognan , in the Bordeaux wine region. The estate dates back to 1584, but in 1791, during the French Revolution, the estate was confiscated and became national property. It was then acquired in 1840 by the wine merchant Léon Colin , who renamed it "Carmes Haut-Brion". The Chantecaille family, heirs of Léon Colin, held the estate until 2010. In 2010, the estate was acquired by the real estate developer Patrice Pichet , who undertook a significant modernization of the estate. In 2016, the estate inaugurated a new winery designed by the architect Philippe Starck and the architect Luc Arsène-Henry. This architectural work is inspired by the shape of a boat floating on water, symbolizing the maritime history of Bordeaux.
Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2021 is a blend of Cabernet Franc (40%), Cabernet Sauvignon (35%) and Merlot (25%) . The average age of the vines is 43 years. Vinification is carried out in 60 hectoliter stainless steel vats, 50 hectoliter concrete vats and 76 hectoliter wooden vats. Vatting lasts approximately 35 days. Aging lasts 24 months in new barrels (70%), tuns (20%) and stoneware terracotta jars (10%) .
